Shinn shines bright on Winter afternoon

SYDNEY - Blake Shinn edged another win closer to claiming the Sydney jockeys' premiership when he partnered Nuclear Sky to victory in the feature Winter Cup at Rosehill.

His last-stride triumph aboard the Jack Denham-trained stayer gave him a race-to-race double after Kenny's World prevailed in the Harris Farm Hcp (1200m).

Shinn's efforts followed a treble at Rosehill last weekend and another victory at the Australian Jockey Club meeting at Newcastle on Wednesday

Sea Battle impresses Rodd

MELBOURNE - Jockey Michael Rodd endorsed four-year-old Sea Battle as a genuine spring horse after he posted his third win in a row in the Listed Winter Championship Final at Flemington.

Sea Battle ($2.80 fav) backed up from last week's easy win in the final heat of the series with a narrower, but just as convincing, three-quarter length win over Rockpecker ($6) with the fast-finishing Magnetic ($17) 2-3/4 lengths away third in the 1600m feature.

Kerdem gives Payne biggest training thrill in Qld Cup

BRISBANE - Former Irish stayer Kerdem earned a reprieve from a jumping career when he gave Patrick Payne the greatest thrill of his short training career with a heart-stopping win in the Queensland Cup at Eagle Farm today.

Kerdem ($3.70 fav), perfectly handled by Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Scott Seamer, outstayed Port Macquarie stayer Sky Biscuit ($5.50) to score by a neck with Rezone ($7) a further 1-3/4 lengths away third.
